HED Big Aluminum Deal (B.A.D.) Fat Rim

To go along with their 80mm Big Deal carbon rim, HED has an 80mm aluminum rim – the Big Alloy Deal. The welded rim is being extruded in Iowa with the final rolling and welding  completed in Hed’s Minneapolis headquarters. Welded and accepting 32 spokes, the rims can be built without spoke washers and will be offered in Black finish.

Using what they’ve learned from their carbon offerings, the HED Big Alloy Deal continues with the Inflat-o-band system for tubeless. Our experience is that non tubeless fat bike tires will probably need the Inflat-o-bands, but the new crop of tires with tubeless beads should snap right into place. Due to the ribbed design of the rim, HED says the rim achieves the stiffness of most dual wall rims while keeping the weight at a scant 630 grams (lowest available in aluminum).

    Pete and his team build me up a set of HED BAD wheels on DT hubs last season and they’ve been nothing short of perfect. No worry about tubeless setup, I likely could have forgone the taping altogether! The setup is light and, IMO, a perfect size for any 4.5” -5” tire out there. The alloy wheel is durable and cost effective, everything I was looking for with my rig… Tire swaps are simple and the inflatobands make difficult tires, easy to seal up.
