45NRTH Dillinger 5 – 26 x 4.6 60TPI Studded Tire
If your Canadian and own a Fat Bike your riding in the winter, in snow and very typically that means ICE. The Dillinger 4 and 5 are those tires for Canadian winters and ideally staying upright when encountering an icy section of trail. The first time you take a “hipper” you will want Dillingers. The price might hurt more than the fall but you will ride more and the pain will go away after you tear through trails and lakes with potential icy sections with only a big grin on your face (this feeling will happen for years because winter tires used in winter last many seasons). These are the best all round studded tire hands down. If your on the fence, realize that when you find out you want these things they will likely be out of stock everywhere.

The larger cousin of the original studded fat bike tire. 258 lightweight studs with concave carbide tips and aluminum bases allow you to rail icy, off-camber single track with confidence and control. The Dillinger 5 floats on top of loose snow and digs while turning, accelerating or braking on ice and packed snow. Ordered a set of these with the steel carbide studs. Rubber compound has excellent grip and cold temperature performance. Studs are well-placed, providing good assistance for corning even on icy packed snow.
My bike originally came with 26×4.0″ tires; at 26×4.6″ these just barely fit. Use your judgement if your own bike is set up with 26×4.0″ tires.
As guy who has done his share of winter biking, starting 20 years ago, these are the tires I wish I could have had from the beginning.

My wife and I both installed these tires on our Norco Sasquatches 7 years ago and they are just needing to be replaced now. I did replace the two centre rows of studs with FBC hex studs two years ago as the originals had worn to the point where the concavity was gone. The outer rows were just fine and still are. The Dilly 5’s are a great blend of reasonable rolling resistance and outstanding traction on both snow and ice especially with the upgraded studs that are more aggressive on ice without causing a lot of drag. I have bought the unstudded ones this time and have moved the studs from the old tires to the new ones. Yup, a tiring time consuming job, but hey, I’m retired and I just do a tire a day on those days when the temperatures plummet and riding is uncomfortable.
